Sabahans Have Become Beggars In Their Own Land?

Sabah's Chief Minister Musa Aman exalts Prime Minister Najib's concern for Sabah in the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) as displayed through the Federal Government's generosity to the state. He is not the first Chief Minister to 'shoe polish the testicles" of a Prime Minister and surely will not be the last.

What irks Sabahans the most is,we've been hearing all this glorifying statements about development for the last 47 years and we're still hearing the same song over and over again. What's equally baffling is their call for an effective and sustainable Bumiputra economic participation, special attention will be given to bumiputras in Sabah, the question is which bumiputra's is UMNO/BN referring to - The Dayaks, Kadazans, Eurasians or just plain Malay Bumiputra's or worse the recent migrants or 'maggie-mee' bumis who get instant citizenship and bumi status?

Anyone with a clear conscience will attest that it is mind boggling, for a state rich in oil, timber, oil palm and tourism to be currently the second poorest state in the country.Where has all the wealth gone to? As one of the largest oil producing state in the country,Sabah should be the most developed state in Malaysia, yet Musa Aman alongside his UMNO/BN comrades are talking about the Federal Government's generosity to Sabah.

The Federal Government should be thanking Sabah,Sarawak,Terengganu and Kelantan for it's generosity in developing Malaysia to what it is today.Musa Aman and his entire bandwagon of infidels in UMNO/BN Sabah should immediately admit themselves into the nearest mental hospital or better yet, dissolve the state legislative assembly.Let us see if they still have the support of the people.
Is Sabah BEGGING for development? It surely appears so.Sabahans have become beggers in their own land.

The denial syndrome and greed of Musa Aman and UMNO/BN in undermining the intelligence of Sabahans and continued hoodwinking, has reached an annoying stage. With Najib's recent approval rating rising to an all-time high of 72%( Indians 80%,Malays 77% and Chinese 58% ) and the carrot dangling in the 10th Malaysia Plan,I fore-see an early elections underway.

The signs are just to great to ignore, what more with Najib knowing that Sabah is his prized "fixed deposit".The question is has Sabahans awaken from their deep induced slumber? If at all Minister in the Prime Minister's Department,Idris Jala caution that Malaysia will be bankgrupt by 2019,then we're only been hoodwinked by this 10th MP.

In contrast, this could be the time to reward the inner circle of cronies and Umno warlords. The spoils of war are to be divided according to loyalty and patronage. We all know that power and money is derived from the great Umno patronage system so perfected by Mahathir. Those who dare turn against the great patron suffers financially and politically. In short,Najib and Musa Aman are the Sheriff of Nottingham by day and transform to be Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves by night.

Sun Tzu (Art of War ) would have included UMNO/BN in his book as being an avid follower,if there was going to be a reprint. The 10th MP which is being acclaimed as goodies by the likes of Musa Aman and his bandwagon of "yes man" from UMNO/BN is more of a blackmail in preparation of an impending elections.

Once again,I must remind Sabahans,47 years of hoodwinking is enough. We've heard so much about hard core poverty for the last 25 years and we're still hearing about hard core poverty. What has happened to all the funds to eradicate poverty? We're rich in oil, timber and oil palm, why is the poverty level so high?

Nicolo Machiavelli best describes these actions of present day politicians " Being poor and scattered cannot hurt, they are either well treated or crushed".

Sabahans must review their tolerance level - you've been too kind for the last 47 years, the time has come for you to take control of what rightfully belong to you,it's now or never.

  7. As Sabah we must first deny Umno by rejecting it completely in next election.

2ndly we should not blinded by the monkey money to follow the BN in the next election.

3rdly get any alternative force/energy to form next governement no matter what by rejecting existing federal & Sabah state governemnt.

4thly re-establish once again our Sabah statue since 1976 June the 6th the our great heros of Sabahans being sacrificed.

Finally Sabah do not belong to Malayu or Chinese or Indian but merely original birth of Sabahans.

  14. Musa just stated his opinion with the 10MP and for him, the 10MP give benefit to Sabah in certain aspect such as roads, water and electricity..maybe there should be more to solve the longstanding problems facing by sabah such as poverty..its not Musa or state govt decision on what contained in 10MP..we can ask, but its not us to give..maybe its time for us (sabahan) to get back what's belong to us..

  22. Hardcore poor in Sabah down by 5,000
Published on: Wednesday, February 11, 2009

Kota Kinabalu: Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman said the poverty eradication programme in Sabah is moving in the right direction as evidenced in the decreasing number of hardcore poor household heads (KIRMTs) last year compared to 2007.
The Chief Minister said there were 21,514 KIRMTs and disabled people (OKUs) in 2007. However, as at Feb. 10 this year, the number had reduced to 16,403 that include OKUs and those in the advanced age bracket.
"This is certainly a good improvement," he said after chairing the People's Welfare Development Scheme Steering Committee at Wisma Innoprise, Tuesday. Also present were State Secretary Datuk Sukarti Wakiman and State Federal Secretary Datuk Ismail Wadin.
Musa said it was for this reason that the Rural and Regional Development Ministry had given Sabah RM23.2 million this year to conduct programmes on income enhancement, training, excellence, career, human mind development, childcare centre and balanced diet.
Hardcore poor families in Sabah are those with household income of below RM540 a month for those in the rural areas and RM960 for those in the urban areas. The State Government aims to achieve zero poverty by 2010.
He said of the 16,403 KIRMTs, OKUs and senior citizens, the programmes would be targeting 12,580 who are productive. For non-productive OKUs, the group's welfare would be taken care of by the State and Federal governments.
Musa said between 2006 and last year, the Federal Government approved RM27.185m for a total of 4,837 assistance given to 2,006 recipients in the whole State.
"Last year, of the 3,727 applications for assistance that are registered, 1,818 applications have been approved to the cost of RM2.678 million," he said.
The Chief Minister also disclosed that the Sabah Welfare Services Department (JPKA) through all its district welfare officers identified and conducted investigation involving 7,712 families under the KIRMT starting February, last year. From this exercise, they managed to trace 5,122 or 66 per cent of the 7,712 families.
Musa said the JPKA, channelled financial assistance to them under the Old Folks Assistance Scheme and General Assistance Scheme.
Under the Old Folks Assistance Scheme, the recipients received RM300 from the Federal Government while under the General Assistance Scheme, the recipients receive minimum of RM150 and maximum RM300 from the State Government.
"For KIRMT who could not be traced, the JPKA advertised in the local papers so that assistance could be channelled to them," he said.
He said under the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP), 15 Mesej programme were being implemented by the Sabah Rubber Industry Board (LIGS) and Sabah Land Development Authority.
According to him, there were seven Mesej aquaculture programme at Kampung Sarap, Pangi, Penimbawan, Pulau Sakar, Nala, Look Butun and Pantau-Pantau involving 536 KIRMT.
Meanwhile, Musa said the State Local Government and Housing Ministry had spent RM6.8m to provide facilities and business premises such as tamu grounds, stalls, arcades, pasar tani and general markets for the benefit of the people.

  42. There are many factors that can be say as the contributors of the problem Sabahan faced today...to put the blame solely to the current state government alone is not fair since the government itself has run a number of programs to try to, if not eliminate, minimize the problem. For example, we have our own hardcore poor eradication program, allocation to build house in allocation program (for example,Kg. Mengkabong, Tuaran resettlement programme, Sabah being one of the biggest fund recipient in Malaysia etc...

Ronnie, judging from your previous postings in your blog, you are certainly a man of courage and for the betterment of Sabahans. The response from friends on the Allah issue you have been championing, and your daringness in facing the Police head-on is something people can only dream of doing. We salute you Ronnie.

Your article above,I have no second thoughts in agreeing.Sabah has been rich and is still rich, but our resources have been mismanaged and UMNO/BN Sabah has become the "middleman" to ensure Sabah's resources are handed over in a silver platter to the Federal government. In the process,Sabah leaders have enriched themselves. Why is Musa Aman thanking Najib for his kind generosity?I fully support this statement of yours Ronnie. My fellow Sabahans the natural resources in Sabah belongs to us,it has been taken away and we have to thank the Federal government? And in return we received peanuts.Aren't we begging for development funds?

Our dignity has been eroded and compromised to the extend that we don't decide on our own natural resources.Where is the natural justice of this?

  56. the reason for Sabah remain as poorest state in Malaysia is due to the area of Sabah which is too big compared to the others states. every districts here are almost equal to the states in SM. that why, Sabah need a lot of times and allocations to be a developed state..

  57. Ron, check it out Datuk K Ghani's statement about Sabah's status in today DE 17/6.

He's right. We were not that naive and stupid in 1963. Maybe we fall to their bait when Singapore kicked out in 1965. In fact, Sabah and Sarawak can have a referendum to review the status of Malaysia Federation in 1973 but unfortunately our late Tun Mustapha did not do it.

So in 1976, when our founders the late Tun Fuad and his side-kick the late Datuk Peter Mojuntin were put to sleep forever, they passed a bill in parliament to change the Article... of the Federal Constitution to delete Singapore and put the status of Sabah and Sarawak equally among the Malayan States.

Now, why Sabah and Sarawak's MPs and ADUNs until today don't have the balls to voice out once and for all in the Parliament or in the State Legislative Assembly what actually is our real status in Malaysia, a partner or one of the 14 States in Malaysia.

  58. The reason that poverty level is high it's because there are too many illegal immigrants and stateless people. They are the poorest here.

Who are "they" that you mention who passes the Bill in the Parliament to change the Article of the Constitution to delete Singapore and put the status of Sabah and Sarawak equally with the Malayan states? Why nobody know about this? Damn I'm too curious. Please feed my curiosity on this comment of yours, dear Anon..

  60. All i can see, the one who begs are those illegal immigrants and stateless people. They are the poorest that makes the poverty level in Sabah increasingly high. *sigh*

    ReplyDelete
  61. My dear Comrade, for your information "they" were the BN regime during the administration of Keris's late daddy the then PM Malaysia the late Tun Hussein Onn.

That was the time the Kuala Lumpur government's ability to achieve a two-thirds parliamentary majority of 120 seats from Peninsular Malaysia itself, a number of important amendments were made to the Malaysian Constitutions which have almost entirely eroded the special standing of the two Borneo states within the Federation as it was originally negotiated.

Under the Constitution (Amendment) Act of 1976, Article 1 {2} was altered with the effect that the separate listing of the two Borneo states as members of the Federation was eliminated. Also refer Act A514, Section 19, in force from 27-08-1976 (2 months and 21 days after the late Tun Fuad and others perished in air-crashed tragedy on 6/6/1976).

This reflects the Federal Government's long term policy that Sabah and Sarawak were to have the same status within the Federation as the constituent states of the original Malayan Federation of 1957.

This is the most politically symbolic of all then amendments of the Constitution relating to Sabah and Sarawak.
